Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun expressed that Beijing is closely following the situation and assessed positive the exchange between two great powers with global influence in search of strengthening communication on international issues.

Regarding the crisis in Ukraine, the spokesperson reiterated China’s position in favor of dialogue and negotiation.

He recalled that President Xi Jinping proposed, since the first day of the conflict, to seek a political solution at the negotiating table.

Guo stressed, “China supports all efforts leading to the peaceful settlement of the crisis, will maintain communication with relevant parties, and continue to play a constructive role in promoting the political settlement of the crisis.”

According to the Kremlin, “President Trump spoke in favor of an early end to hostilities and a peaceful solution to the problem. President Putin, in turn, mentioned the need to eliminate the deep causes of the conflict and agreed with Trump that a long-term solution can be achieved through peaceful negotiations.”
