China and EU agree on a fair solution for Gaza’s future

Beijing, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) China and the European Union (EU) today called for strengthening communication to promote a comprehensive, just and lasting solution on the future of the Gaza Strip.

The Chinese government’s special envoy for Middle East affairs, Zhai Jun, and the EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process, Sven Koopmans, agreed on this issue during a telephone conversation.

Beijing stressed that Gaza belongs to Palestinian territory and stressed that any agreement on the future of the enclave must respect the will of the Palestinian people.

In this regard, he insisted on following the principle of ‘Palestinian governance for the Palestinians’ in post-conflict plans.

The Chinese diplomat reaffirmed that the fundamental solution to break the cycle of violence between Palestine and Israel lies in the implementation of the two-state solution, a vision that is shared by China and the European Union.

Indeed, Koopmans stressed that the bloc also supports the two-state solution to solve the Palestinian conflict.

He added that the EU is willing to continue to work closely with China to contribute tirelessly to the resolution of the Palestinian issue.

The phone call between the two regions comes amid a context of uncertainties after U.S. President Donald Trump announced his plan to control Gaza.

The Republican intends to raise among the ashes of the Israeli genocide an urbanized area named ‘Middle East Riviera’, without Palestinians.
