In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates called on the Security Council to overcome its state of impotence and apply urgent measures.
The statement condemned in the strongest terms “the unilateral and illegal actions of the Israeli occupation,” among which it cited the expansion of colonization in Palestine. As an example, it denounced the construction of a road near the village of Yasuf, in the West Bank, where a Jewish colony will also be built in the vicinity of the city of Bethlehem. It also warned about “the allocation of enormous sums of money to connect the colonies with each other,” which, it noted, leads to the isolation of Jerusalem from the rest of Palestine.
The Foreign Ministry said the strategy was aimed at dismembering the West Bank, and more than 800 military checkpoints were also set up across the territory.
Last month, the Israeli army launched a large-scale operation against the West Bank, with its epicenter in the city of Jenin and its neighboring refugee camp, although it was later extended to other areas, including the city of Tulkarem.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that since then more than 70 citizens have died from Israeli attacks in the territory, where serious material damage has also been reported after the destruction of buildings, water and electricity systems, streets and businesses.
