The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement an initial agreement to hold a Summit, following an Arab one that will also take place in Cairo for the same reason on February 27th.
The statement highlighted that in recent days contacts were made between the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, and several of his counterparts from OIC member countries, including Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Iran and Jordan. The meeting will aim to reaffirm Arab and Islamic support for the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights, especially to live in their homeland and with independence.
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on Tuesday stressed his categorical rejection of the displacement of Gazans amid growing tensions with the United States over Trump’s plan.
During a telephone conversation with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, El-Sisi reiterated the need to implement the complete ceasefire in the Strip that came into effect on January 19th, the Egyptian Presidency explained in a statement.
The Al-Arabiya television network revealed a few hours ago that the president had indefinitely postponed a planned visit to Washington amid bilateral tensions.
The crisis began at the end of last month when Trump advocated expelling Palestinians from the Strip to Egypt and Jordan, which was flatly rejected by Cairo and Amman. “It is an injustice in which we cannot participate,” El-Sisi said in response to the White House plan. “There are historical rights that cannot be ignored,” he stressed, and warned that Egyptian, Arab and international public opinion is calling for the injustice committed against that people since 1948 to be corrected.
Trump’s plan has sparked a wave of international criticism, especially in the Middle East, where support for the Palestinian people is very strong.
