Thousands of users without power in Uruguay due to storms

Montevideo, Feb 11 (Prensa Latina) Thousands of users are today without electricity service as a result of strong winds and storms that are recorded in much of the Uruguayan territory.

A preliminary report from the state company UTE reports that 10 thousand users are out of service in the department of Colonia.

Thousands more are facing the same situation in the departments of Soriano, Flores and San José.

The report highlights five thousand users without electricity in this capital city, where strong gusts of wind are blowing.

Several regions of Uruguay are under weather alert for storms… The Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (Inumet) warned that a cold front entered through the west coast and generated precipitations and storms, some of them strong and severe.

According to Inumet’s alert, very strong wind gusts, heavy rainfall, hail and intense electric activity may be recorded in storm areas.

Press reports indicate that the meteorological phenomenon, coming from Argentina, caused trees to fall and other damages in the neighboring country.

The temperature here dropped after a Monday of intense heat that in some places in the north led the thermometers to mark above 40 degrees Celsius.
