According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MICI), shrimp, fish and their derivatives top the table of goods with a total of 160.7 million dollars, that is, 18 percent, surpassing bananas, which accumulated 136.8 million dollars as of November last year.
The total of exportable fisheries is subdivided into frozen shrimp (10.2 percent), some US$89.5 million, followed by fish fats and oils; and fishmeal.
In the case of Panamanian fisheries whose main markets are Europe and the United States, products are shipped in different forms, such as whole, in pieces, frozen and fresh, among others.
Some of the varieties that do not appear in the indicators of the National Institute of Statistics and Census or the MICI, but do appear before the Aquatic Resources Authority of Panama, are snapper, with a contribution of 13.5 million dollars and also yellowfin tuna and mahi mahi mahi, in that order.
In terms of goods, bananas, cane sugar, palm oil followed fishery products and among the main destinations were the United States, the Netherlands and Taiwan.
