Since the identification of the first patients on January 7, 3,147 people were reported with the disease nationwide and 108 died, while the number of provinces with the disease has risen to 10 of the 21 existing ones, after the incorporation of Cuanza Sul. Luanda had been from the beginning the most affected area and consequently the largest number of vaccines and actions were deployed in that territory, but for more than three days the increase of cases in Bengo has been keeping the health authorities busy.
The highest peak occurred last Saturday, when out of the 295 patients reported, 160 corresponded to that province.
In view of this situation, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) decided to increase the target population for vaccination and, instead of 930,572 people, they expect to reach 1,079,476.
According to the Ministry, 925,573 Angolans are currently vaccinated, which corresponds to 86 percent of the expected population in the provinces of Luanda, Icolo and Bengo, and Bengo, the latter with the lowest number of immunized population (71,436).
