Cuban residents in Dom. Rep. condemn Marco Rubio’s hate speech

Santo Domingo, Feb 11 (Prensa Latina) The Máximo Gómez Association of Cuban Residents in the Dominican Republic on Tuesday rejected recent statements about the Caribbean island by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during his visit to this country.

In a statement sent to Prensa Latina, the Association described as “offensive and false” the words of Marco Rubio, who slashed against the governments of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, in a press conference at the National Palace.

The newly appointed head of US diplomacy said that “the three nations are enemies of humanity” and accused them of contributing to the instability in the region.

“Marco Rubio is an active promoter of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, an unjust and anachronistic policy that directly affects Cuban families on and off the island,” the Association stated.

His statements, riddled with misinformation and attacks on our country’s sovereignty, seek to hinder any progress in bilateral relations between Cuba and other nations with which it shares historic ties of brotherhood and solidarity, it added.

“Our community, made up of citizens who contribute to the social, cultural and economic development of the Dominican Republic, rejects any attempts at promoting interventionist agendas that threaten the self-determination of peoples,” the Association, which bears the name of Generalissimo Máximo Gómez, stated.

It reiterated that it will not accept that individuals like Marco Rubio sow hatred and division among sister nations, and calling to prevent agendas contrary to peace and cooperation between the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Dozens of left-wing political, patriotic and social organizations in the Dominican Republic rejected Marco Rubio’s presence here, considering that he intends to impose Washington’s colonialist agenda on Luis Abinader’s government.
