In a statement, the group rejected any attempts at exerting pressure, resulting from Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s latest visit, and the White House’s desire to regain control of the Panama Canal, under the influence of China, according to them.
This policy aims to have, for the economic benefit of others, infrastructures that are and must remain at the exclusive service of the Panamanian people, the AMCRP message stated.
“The Panama Canal is, has been and will always be Panamanian. This monumental work, a symbol of the struggle and effort of a sovereign people, cannot be the object of foreign interests that seek to undermine Panana’s independence and dignity,” the document stressed.
The AMCRP called on the international community to demand respect for the integrity and will of the Panamanian people, and to repudiate any form of interference that threatens its independence and development.
