Cuba will host ITU World Youth Summit 2025

Havana, Feb 11 (Prensa Latina) The digital empowerment of the new generations will be the central theme of the World Youth Summit of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) 2025 that will take place in Cuba in March.

Under the motto “Amplifying the voices of young people in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for a connected future,” the event that will take place in Varadero from March 11 to 13, and the program will consist of meetings and panels so that young people can be part of the dialogue and processes in decision-making about the sector.

Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT), said when launching the call that the main purpose of the event is “to create a forum for young people to exchange and generate concrete proposals on how to define the future in the context of the digital age.”

Organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in conjunction with the Ministry of Communications of the Republic of Cuba, the Summit (CMJ-25) will be held in person and will host ITU members, Generation Connect Youth envoys and young guests from the United Nations and other related organizations.

“I am confident that this event will be a unique global platform for young people to share their ideas and perspectives with a view to shaping a more inclusive and connected digital future for young people around the world,” Luckyson said.

The Summit also aims to explore and consider the potential of young minds in the digital age and to foster a global, intersectional and intergenerational conversation that actively involves young people.

It will provide the ITU Members (including governments, the private sector and academic institutions), UN agencies and other policy makers with a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of ICT-related needs, which are essential to empowering young people in all regions of the world and across all sectors.

“WCY-25 will serve as a dynamic platform for dialogue among young people, stakeholders and decision makers focusing on addressing ICT needs and aspirations to support educational and socioeconomic development, while exploring ways to ensure their effective participation in the digital economy, society and environment,” the BDT director stressed.

At the conclusion of the meeting, a final report will be produced that will capture the perspectives, innovative ideas and challenges faced by different regions.

The document will serve as a guide for policy makers, ITU members and stakeholders seeking to align their national, regional and global digital agendas, including using the report as input to the Regional Preparatory Meetings (RPMs) and the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2025 (WTDC-25), the organizers said.
