St. Kitts’ prime minister talks about fight against crime

Basseterre, Feb 10 (Prensa Latina) The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Terrance Drew, highlighted today's fight against crime is showing tangible results.

The 90-day campaign against anti-social activities received support from political parties and communities, Drew emphasized.

Police forces, he explained, were able to deal with crime from a preventive perspective, rather than acting after the crime had been committed.

The working group that led the campaign had special interactions with citizens by visiting community centers, villages and schools, encouraging them to play an active role in prevention, said Drew, as quoted by the Associates Times website.

Special guidance was also provided to young people to improve their concentration and engage in purposeful employment.

The government, according to Drew, was working to create more employment opportunities so that young people’s energy could be channeled into nation building, rather than being wasted on criminal activities.

Investigations showed that most of these crimes were related to family conflicts.

Hence, 20 family counselors were initially hired to work along these lines, the prime minister said.
