The spokesman for the Volunteer Fire Department, Victor Gomez, told the local press that some of the victims have already been identified, after the rescue this morning in the Calzada de la Paz gully, when many were trapped inside the bus and eventually drowned.
The rescue forces organized at the site continue to attend to the emergency and transferred five injured persons to different hospitals, one of whom died.
It was preliminarily reported that the bus, coming from San Agustín Acasaguastlan, department of El Progreso, before falling into the ravine, collided with a car which was severely damaged.
The city’s mayor, Ricardo Quiñones, expressed through a message on social networks his solidarity with the affected families and reaffirmed his commitment to address this crisis with immediate actions.
