Venezuela thanks Cuba for its firm rejection of plane theft

Caracas, Feb 8 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela on Friday expressed sincere gratitude to Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez for his firm rejection of the recent act of piracy perpetrated by the United States, which illegally confiscated a PDVSA plane.

On behalf of President Nicolás Maduro, “we express our sincere gratitude to the brother Foreign Minister of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez,” his Venezuelan counterpart, Yván Gil, wrote on his Telegram channel.

The head Venezuelan diplomacy stated that this act of piracy perpetrated by Washington was carried out “with the complicity of the Government of the Dominican Republic.”

On Friday, Rodríguez charged that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio intended to become the “Sheriff” of Latin America and the Caribbean, with the “illegal confiscation of a Venezuelan plane.”

He affirmed that the US representative commits “a condemnable and arbitrary act of modern piracy,” which violates international law and the United Nations Charter.

On his X account, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel noted that with this step, the Government of the United States “ratifies its disrespect for the rules of international law by illegally confiscating” the Venezuelan aircraft.

He stressed that the act qualifies as modern piracy and “is a new demonstration of the commitment to the Monroe Doctrine, a neocolonial instrument of domination.”
