Cuba’s Conference for Balance of the World highlighted in Guatemala

Guatemala, Feb 8 (Prensa Latina) A column in the newspaper La Hora de Guatemala, published on Friday, provided details about the 6th International Conference for the Balance of the World, held January 28 to 31 in Cuba.

I had the privilege, along with other colleagues from this country, to participate in this academic scientific event, journalist Factor Méndez wrote.

It is a forum of hope and global commitment to a better world, he noted, adding that the opening session was attended by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and president of the Republic.

Monsignor Antoine Camilleri, Apostolic Nuncio in Cuba, read the full text of a letter that Pope Francis sent to the participants, he said.

The master lecture, entitled “Justice as a path to Peace and Balance in the World,” was given by Frei Betto, a renowned Dominican theologian and Brazilian intellectual, he stressed.

“It is necessary to sensitize the world public opinion as much as possible so that it understands the crossroads in which these turbulent (and decisive) times of the first half of the 21st century place human beings,” was read in the scientific program, he added.

The forum was attended by 1,233 participants from 98 countries, from all continents, who debated a variety of topics that were addressed by prominent experts, scientists and academics from different disciplines, the journalist stressed.

The work tables allowed for an enriching meeting and exchange of invaluable opinions, emphasized the renowned reporter.

Atilio Borón, an Argentine researcher, gave the master lecture, entitled “The transition has concluded. Notes on the distinctive features of the new international system.”

The closing session, on January 31, was chaired by the Cuban president, who highlighted the importance of the event as “…a forum that serves to stimulate the debate on core issues of the current global context.”

Díaz-Canel recalled the blockade of the United States Government against Cuba and condemned the genocide against the Palestinian people, the communicator added.

Méndez described the event as solemn, and concluded by recalling his stay in Cuba, where he participated in the cultural events to commemorate the 130th birthday National Hero José Martí.
