In his account on X, the head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) criticized the systematic dehumanization of the citizens of the Gaza Strip. “Palestinians matter, including those in Gaza. Their rights, their lives and their future matter,” he stressed, and stated that human rights cannot be applied selectively in the world.
Lazzarini also warned that the heavy rains and winds in Gaza aggravate the humanitarian crisis affecting the population of the Strip. Many Palestinian families still live in temporary shelters due to the widespread destruction in the area, he recalled.
The agency released a video showing numerous tents belonging to displaced people, made of fabric and nylon, being carried away by strong winds.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that “Peace requires an end to the occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with Gaza as an integral part; a viable and sovereign Palestinian state alongside Israel.”
Guterres said UNRWA is committed to maintaining aid to refugees, despite the Israeli offensive against the agency.
