Iranian Supreme Leader suggests not to negotiate with the US

Tehran, Feb 7 (Prensa Latina) Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, suggested today that his country's government should not negotiate with the United States because it would be "neither intelligent, nor wise, nor honorable", according to local media.

Irna news agency reported that Khamenei made these statements in a meeting held on Friday with a group of commanders of the Air Force and the Air Defense of the Army of the Islamic Republic here in the capital.

The Iranian religious leader pointed out that experience shows that negotiations with the United States do not solve the country’s problems, stressed Irna.

Khamenei recalled -Irna continues- that in 2010 the country sat down to negotiate with the United States and after about two years an agreement was reached, in which the Iranian side was very generous, gave many concessions, but the Americans did not comply.

The agreement was aimed at removing US sanctions, but the sanctions were not lifted, the religious leader added.

Khamenei’s remarks come days after US President Donald Trump called for a verified nuclear peace deal with Iran, adding that the Persian country cannot have the nuclear weapon.

In turn, Iran has reiterated that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only and denies any intention to develop atomic weapons.
