Saint George, Feb 7 (Prensa Latina) Grenada celebrates today the 51st Anniversary of its Independence from British rule on February 7, 1974.

This year, the celebrations are being held under the theme “The Next 50: Embracing a Future of Development, Transformation and Unity”.

The Carriacou Botanical Garden was chosen as one of the main venues to celebrate this patriotic date, the last time it happened in this place was during the 49th anniversary celebrations.

Grenada’s highest authorities called for public-private partnerships to organize the cultural events, according to the Associates Times website.

Grenada is an archipelago of 344 square kilometers with a population of almost 90,000 inhabitants, mostly of African descent.

Among its many attractions are beautiful beaches and the Grand Etang National Park, which treasures a large lake inside the crater of an extinct volcano many years ago.

It is known worldwide as the Island of Spices for being one of the largest producers and exporters of nutmeg, cloves, ginger, vanilla and cocoa, among others.
