The 9th Meeting of National Coordinators and integration mechanism, which began on Thursday in the industrial capital of Honduras, is being attended by all its members, with 11 representatives of member countries participating in person and in a hybrid format.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Honduras Gerardo Torres welcomed the delegates and highlighted the importance of the event in the strengthening of the organization. He also stated that the meeting seeks to create a working group to harmonize cooperation, investment and political coordination efforts with the multilateral organization’s extra regional partners, among which he mentioned the European Union, the African Union, the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, China, Turkey and India.
Torres, who confirmed that Honduras has begun the transition process to hand over the Pro Tempore Presidency of the bloc to Colombia, said: “Honduras has achieved something unprecedented, having established six meetings with key extra regional partners; now we will discuss the follow-up mechanisms to guarantee the continuity of these efforts,” .
Honduras also presented its proposal for a Declaration for the CELAC Summit of Presidents that it will host this year.
During the opening session, representatives of Brazil, Cuba, Venezuela, Guatemala and Mexico reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening CELAC and finding solutions to the challenges of the Latin American and Caribbean region.
