Cuban president visits economic centers in Camagüey

Camagüey, Cuba, Feb 6 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel visited centers of economic and social interest in the municipality of Sibanicú, in Camagüey province, on Thursday, to learn about the efforts being made in the territories in the face of the complex situation the country is going through.

As is usual in these tours, the seventh he has made of the province since 2024, the president met with the productive forces and the population of Camagüey.

Díaz-Canel’s agenda began in the Acuinicú Base Business Unit, attached to the Camagüey Fishing Company, as reported by the Presidency of the Republic on its X account.

That firm dedicates to the capture, industrialization and commercialization of aquaculture species and has a staff of 155 workers.

Accompanied by the secretary of Organization of the Communist Party of Cuba, Roberto Morales, and provincial authorities, the head of State discussed the investments being made in the business unit to extend the production of shaped products from 1.5 to 3 tons a day.

Díaz-Canel was interested in the characteristics of the workforce, its stability, and its working and living conditions, while praising the facilities and calling on them to achieve a greater impact on the population, with the increase and diversification of their production.

Later, the dignitary visited the Manuel Antonio de Varona Miranda polyclinic, which serves 28,760 inhabitants and has 29 family doctor’s offices.

The polyclinic provides Obstetrics, Stomatology, Rehabilitation and Emergency Room services.

The president spoke with the workers of the medical institution about different diseases, infant and maternal mortality, teenage pregnancy and how to deal with it, and also addressed the shortage of medicines and the efforts being made to find solutions.

He also met with local residents who came to the clinic about the actions being undertaken to transform the life of the community.

Regarding the complex situation with power generation in the country, aggravated by exit of the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant from the national grid, Díaz-Canel estimated that the situation should begin to improve over the weekend with its reincorporation and that of the Felton plant.

The president recalled that starting in February, a group of photovoltaic parks being built with Chinese collaboration will gradually be synchronized with the National Electric System, which will allow the generation capacity to increase.

Regarding food production, he considered that Sibanicú has sufficient land to guarantee a good part of the food for its inhabitants.
