This was confirmed by the Minister of Women’s Affairs of Cambodia, Kantha Phavi, and Cuban Ambassador Milena Zaldívar at a meeting held on Wednesday and at which they also advocated strengthening the ties of solidarity between both peoples.
Phavi highlighted the resilience of the Cuban people and, in a special way, praised the role played by women in different sectors of society.
Zaldívar, in turn, spoke in favor of expanding dialogue between that ministry and the Cuban Women’s Federation (FMC), and promoting common actions on issues such as leadership, training of human resources and women’s empowerment.
At the meeting, the ambassador invited the minister, on behalf of FMC General Secretary Teresa Amarrelle, to visit Cuba next March, on the occasion of her participation in the 69th Commission on the Legal and Social Status of Women, dependent on the United Nations Economic and Social Council, in New York.
The letter underlines the special interest of the FMC in continuing to strengthen the historic relations of friendship and solidarity between the Mechanisms for the Advancement of Women, as well as in following up on shared issues and interests during Amarrelle’s visit to the Kingdom in May 2023.
On that occasion, the member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba met with Phavi, with whom she discussed government actions to promote a greater presence of women in the various spheres of society, and to whom she awarded with the 23rd of August Distinction, granted by the FMC.
At the time, the interlocutors acknowleged the progress in the links between both nations in areas such as health care, sports and agriculture, among others, and Amarelle highlighted the work done by her hostess at the head of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs.
Amarelle and her entourage also paid a courtesy visit to the Queen Mother of Cambodia, Norodom Monineath, who recalled the deep admiration of the King Father, Norodom Sihanouk, for the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.
Her Majesty also praised the Cuban women’s feat, their meritorious presence on all fronts and acknowledged their status as standard-bearers in solidarity medicine.
