The union members plan to make a “noise protest” in front of the Secretariat of Territorial Development, Habitat and Housing to demand adequate conditions and guarantees of access to water, electricity and other services.
ATE members will also denounce the Government’s intentions to close that organization, which would imply the dismissal of hundreds of people and the closure of programs necessary for social welfare.
“The cut in funds for the construction of housing and the improvement of habitat not only affects the State, but the entire economy. Private companies, contractors and workers are pushed to closure and suspension, which causes a massive loss of employment and the bankruptcy of industries that supply essential inputs,” the organization warned in a statement.
“The end of the Secretariat and the elimination of key programs represent a setback. The dismantling is not only a devastating blow for the country’s humble and working families, but will also worsen the economic and social crisis in the coming months,” ATE added.
It further said the measure would mean the paralysis of 1,836 agreements and 103,367 housing solutions, which would harm thousands of citizens.
“This adjustment destroys jobs and puts an end to a structure of knowledge that is fundamental for planning and management,” the Association indicated.
