Rodriguez affirmed that the only alternative to end the conflict is the recognition of an independent Palestinian state within pre-1967 borders and with its capital in East Jerusalem.
On Tuesday, US President, Donald Trump, announced that he would take control of the Gaza Strip and assured that the Palestinians should leave the enclave permanently.
According to him, “taking control” means that “we will be responsible for dismantling all the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons there, leveling the site and getting rid of the buildings destroyed (by Israel itself with the same weaponry provided by Washington).”
At a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he said they would create “an economic development that will provide an unlimited amount of jobs and housing for the people in the area, do real work, do something different.”
Since October 2023 about 47,500 Palestinians were killed, mostly women and children; 14,200 are still missing and the damage is around $50 billion, according to official data.
