This was stated by Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian when asked for his opinion on recent statements by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Lin noted that she saw a potential agreement between the two sides and the possibility of expanding trade and investment relations.
In this context, Lin emphasized that the international situation is undergoing an accelerated process of transformation, which gives increasing strategic importance to China-EU ties.
According to the spokesman, Beijing deeply values its relationship with Europe, considers them a fundamental part of the global strategy and trusts the bloc to be a reliable partner in bilateral cooperation.
“This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU,” he recalled.
Lin expressed China’s desire to work together with the European Union to implement the main ideas agreed upon by the leaders of the two sides, celebrate the anniversary commemorative events, and foster greater understanding and strategic coordination
