According to the report, the event is associated with an extremely warm and dry air mass that will move from the Equator towards the south of the continent, with particular effect from Valparaíso to Ñuble.
In the Metropolitan Region of Santiago, where the capital is located, thermometers will reach 39 degrees on Saturday in the communes of Tiltil and Paine, while in Lampa, Buin, Curacaví and Melipilla they will be around 36 degrees.
The heat will also be intense in the valleys of the foothills of Valparaíso and O’Higgins and in some places 40 degrees are forecasted, so it will be necessary to apply measures to protect the health of the population, especially children, the elderly and vulnerable people.
Meteored warned that on Sunday the heat wave will move towards Maule and Ñuble and will be accompanied by dry winds of up to 50 kilometers per hour, which will increase the risk of forest fires.
In the Metropolitan Region of Santiago, the local government launched the so-called Oasis Project, which consists of placing free hydration points along La Alameda Avenue.
There, people affected by the heat can drink water, rest in the shade and receive specialized attention.
