Canadian government to seek more cooperation with EU

Ottawa, Feb 5 (Prensa Latina) The Government of Canada announced today an upcoming visit by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Paris and Brussels to strengthen cooperation with its partners in the European Union (EU) and NATO.

Through a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office reported that the EU-Canada summit will examine ways to strengthen the security of both parties, “protect the international order based on rules, continue supporting Ukraine and create opportunities for our population.”

During his tour of European territory from February 8 to 12, Trudeau will also attend the Summit on Action on Artificial Intelligence organized by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

While in Brussels, he plans to meet with the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Mark Rutte.

According to the text, transatlantic collaboration, in defense and security, in innovation and energy, in business and trade, is essential for Canada’s success, “in Paris and Brussels we will strengthen Canada’s alliances and partnerships,” Trudeau said.

Earlier, on Wednesday, the Executive announced that it is preparing a Canada-United States economic summit, scheduled for this Friday, with the aim of increasing investment and easing trade barriers.

The event, based in Toronto, is designed to explore ways to expand the domestic economy, facilitate construction and trade within the country, diversify export markets and reactivate productivity.

“This is an important opportunity to build a long-term prosperity agenda for Canada; one that is resilient, breaks down barriers between provinces and territories, and is diversified in global trade,” the statement said. ef/mem/mjm
