The census exercise also found that the main reason for those who take the legal or illegal path is the search for jobs, in a country where three out of every 10 people are self-employed.
Conducted by the Central Reserve Bank, the census found that 86% of those who migrated in the last five years left for the United States.
This was confirmed by Douglas Rodríguez, president of the BCR, as he outlined some elements found during the survey, including that 8,4% of households in the country said that at least one member of their family migrated permanently since 2019.
The study results showed that the economic issue is the main reason for migration, although insecurity had a reduction in the last decade.
