The cuts to the funding of various institutions decided by the White House forced the return of the official Uruguayan delegation, composed of prosecutors, police, government authorities, and the judiciary.
The group, 10 officers, had been invited to participate in a training program on State Policies and transnational crime.
It was to last 15 days and was to be developed in New York, the publication Caras y Caretas reported.
Upon arriving in Miami, the previous stop to New York, US government officials contacted the Uruguayan delegation to inform it that the trip was canceled on “direct orders” from Washington.
The training was being covered by US public funds. The new authorities who took office on January 20 “decided to cut them off.
