India pays tribute to Gandhi on his 77th death anniversary

New Delhi, Jan 30 (Prensa Latina) India's political leaders paid tribute on Thursday to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, on his 77th death anniversary, which inspired Martyrs' Day in his honor. Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted Gandhi's ideals of truth and non-violence as guiding principles for the country's progress and development goals.

“Tributes to Pujya Bapu on his Punya Tithi. His ideals motivate us to build a developed India. I also pay tribute to all those martyred for our nation and recall their service and sacrifice,” the head of Government wrote in a post on X.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, leader of the opposition and the Indian National Congress, described Gandhi as the “soul of India” and is still alive in every Indian.

For his continued struggle for peace and unity in the country, Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse, a Hindu nationalist, in New Delhi on January 30, 1948.

Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy as an advocate of non-violence, freedom, and social justice was vital in both India and the world and continues to inspire and guide generations toward a fairer, more peaceful society. jrr/iff/kmg/lrd
