Dominicans against Use of Illegal U.S. Base in Cuba for Migrants

Santo Domingo, Jan 30 (Prensa Latina) The Dominican organization Movimiento Rebelde (MR) today condemned the use of the Guantanamo Naval Base, Cuban territory illegally occupied by the United States, to imprison tens of thousands of migrants.

“Our organization Movimiento Rebelde RD condemns and rejects the abusive use of the Cuban territory of Guantanamo to imprison migrants from different nations, in frank violation of the sovereignty of the heroic and supportive people of Cuba,” wrote its president, Juan Hubiere, on social account X.

“Every macabre plan will be organized from there against South and Central America,” warned the political leader.

Movimiento Rebelde expressed its solidarity with the Cuban government and people after the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump of the use of that illegal Base to hold migrants who will be deported.

The Cuban Foreign Ministry (Minrex) said yesterday that the White House’s measure is a demonstration of the brutality with which that government acts to supposedly correct problems created by the economic and social conditions of that country, the government’s own management and its foreign policy.

In its statement, the Minrex pointed out that the territory where the United States intends to imprison these people does not belong to it.

It is a portion of Cuban territory in the eastern province of Guantanamo, which remains militarily occupied illegally and against the will of the Cuban nation’, it affirmed.

He pointed out that this military installation is internationally identified, among other reasons, for housing a torture and indefinite detention center, outside the US courts’ jurisdiction, where people who have never been judicially processed or convicted of any crime have been held for up to 20 years.
