Cuban president meets with participants in international forum

Havana, Jan 30 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel met on Thursday with several renowned figures who are participating in the 6th International Conference for the Balance of the World that is taking place in Havana's International Conference Center.

The head of State met with the vice president of International Affairs of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, Rander Peña, with whom he addressed the current challenges in the region, in light of which it is increasingly necessary to strengthen integration and the mechanisms that exist in that regard.

He also met with the member of the European Parliament from the Spanish left-wing party Podemos, Irene Montero, who was interested in the current situation that Cuba is going through as a consequence of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States.

The MEP and women’s rights activist referred to the consequences that the actions by the new Donald Trump administration might bring for Cuba and the world.

The president stressed that Cuba’s dialogue with the European Union has been maintained despite attempts at interrupting it.

According to a report from the Presidency of the Republic, the dignitary also received the US writer, political scientist and activist David Adler, general coordinator of the Progressive International.

During the meeting, Adler described the international conference as a transcendental forum to share Cuba’s resistance strategies “in the face of the avalanches of pressure that reach the island from its country, and that can contribute a lot to the region.”

On Thursday, Díaz-Canel also met with the president of the Senate of Grenada, Dessima Williams, who described Cuba as a friendly nation and “a tireless fighter and defender of just causes.”

Later, he referred to the good state of the historic relations between his country and Algeria, and ratified the will to continue to strengthen them, at a meeting with the president of the Cuba Friendship Parliamentary Group in the National People’s Assembly of Algeria, Feitas Benlakehal.

Díaz-Canel also highlighted the ties of friendship and brotherhood that unite Cuba and Russia, while receiving the first vice president of the Committee on International Relations of the State Duma and coordinator of the Parliamentary Friendship Group, Dmitri N. Novikov. “A warm greeting to President Putin, the president of the Russian Duma and all our Russian friends,” Díaz-Canel said at the meeting, at which he praised the excellent relations that exist between the two countries, which have allowed them to reach “major consensus on issues of cooperation.”

We appreciate the constant denunciation of the blockade against Cuba and its inclusion on the list of nations that allegedly sponsor terrorism, he said.

The Cuban president also met with the vice president of the Rwandan Patriotic Front, Consolee Uwimana, whom he also thanked for the support given to the fight against the unilateral US policy and the unjust terrorist designation.
