Cuba extends tariff benefits to non-commercial imports

Havana, Jan 30 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Ministry of Finance and Prices extended the tariff benefits for non-commercial imports made by individuals, Granma newspaper reported today.

These refer to shipments of food, medicines, toilets and electric plants, the vice-minister of that agency explained after the publication of the resolutions in the extraordinary edition number two of the Official Gazette of the Republic.

The official told Granma that as part of the specificities of the General Customs of the Republic, it is maintained that the products exempted from the payment of tariffs must be brought separately from those that are not.

These provisions authorize imports up to a limit of US$500 of the equivalent value or weight, up to 50 kilograms (kg), in the value/weight ratio established by Customs.

It also allows the increase of the Customs value limit for non-commercial imports made by individuals through shipments, from US$200 to US$500.

The exemption of the payment of the customs tax for the first 30 dollars of the value or its equivalent weight of three kilograms is maintained, as well as the application of the tariff rate of 30 percent in excess of this.

Likewise, imports by natural persons are allowed, as air, sea and postal shipments, up to a limit of 200 dollars or equivalent weight up to 20 kg, in the weight/value ratio. ef/abo/mem/evm
