66th anniversary of Cuban Revolution celebrated in France

Paris, Jan 30 (Prensa Latina) Renowned figures, authorities and representatives of various sectors of French society participated on Thursday in an event, held at the Cuban Embassy here, to celebrate the 66th anniversary of the Revolution.

The director for the Americas and the Caribbean at the French Foreign Ministry, Nathalie Estival-Broadhurst; the deputy director general of UNESCO for Education, Stefania Giannini; parliamentarians, leaders of solidarity associations, members of the diplomatic corps and Cuban residents attended the event, which was hosted by Cuban Ambassadors to France Otto Vaillant, and to UNESCO, María del Carmen Herrera.

In his remarks to the guests, Vaillant underscored the impact of the Revolution on the Cuban people, and the achievements that the process materialized on January 1, 1959, in such areas as health, education, sports and culture.

Since then, nothing has been easy, said the ambassador, who recalled the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on his country by the United States, a policy in force for more than six decades.

Regarding the blockade, he stated that the Cuban people resist the silent bombs of this economic war.

The ambassador to UNESCO, in turn, highlighted the Revolution’s role in promoting ties with that organization and the attachment to its values and principles.

Both Vaillant and Herrera expressed gratitude for the support for Cuba in the face of challenges, and ratified Cuba’s commitment to multilateralism, the defense of peace and cooperation.
