According to the report from the Palacio de las Garzas (seat of the Executive), the conversations between President José Raúl Mulino and his Paraguayan counterpart Santiago Peña, who arrived in Panama to attend from Wednesday the first edition of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic Forum, revolved around these axes.
In the talks, Paraguay expressed its interest in opening a space in the Panamanian meat market, from where it can re-export to Central America and the Caribbean.
It also requested technical cooperation for the registration of barges and tugboats; and in the agricultural sector, Paraguay announced its growth in rice production and made available to Panama the cooperation mechanism, should this product be required due to demand or shortages.
For his part, Mulino reiterated the importance of accessing Paraguayan banks, as well as reviewing the pharmaceutical industry, in search of lower drug costs.
Panama’s recent entry into the Southern Common Market and the advantages it offers as a platform for regional trade were other issues discussed in the bilateral talks.
