“The refusal by UNESCO’s Director General, Ms. Audrey Azoulay, to respect the mandate entrusted to her concerning the safety of journalists makes her an accomplice in the information warfare against the truth orchestrated by the West against Russia,” the foreign minister said.
In this sense, Lavrov added at a general meeting of the National Commission for UNESCO that the refusal of the organization’s board to condemn the murders of Russian journalists is not specific to Moscow, as there are accusations from other nations.
The head of Russian diplomacy described it as “symptomatic” that many territories have similar complaints against the UNESCO Secretariat, and personally against Azoulay.
“The criticisms are due to years of negligence in their duties, hiding the countries in question, falsifying the facts, and consenting to the dissemination of largely false information,” the foreign minister stressed.
Lavrov said all these actions show how the international agency serves the interests of those who want to inflict a “strategic defeat” on Russia and follow the plan of Kiev and its Western allies. jrr/iff/mem/odf
