The chairman of the Chainat Provincial Administrative Organization, Jitthana Yingthaweelapa, told reporters that the fire broke out the previous day and spread to the water park and the Bird Egg Museum.
Considered the largest aviary in Asia and a major attraction in the central province, the Chainat Bird Park is home to more than 100 bird species.
On Tuesday, firefighters set up firebreaks on the hill behind the park as they controlled the blaze with high-pressure water hoses, Jira Chukaew, head of tourism promotion at the facility, said. For his part, Chai Nat Governor Natee Montriwat urged the public to help authorities combat wildfires and air pollution by enforcing the law against agricultural burning and using data on hotspots to increase operational efficiency.
