Another missing youths in Ecuador points to the military

Quito, Jan 28 (Prensa Latina) The disappearance of two young people in Ecuador again points to the military, a case similar to that of the four children in Guayaquil who were taken by uniformed officers and their bodies appeared weeks later.

On August 26, 2024, Dave Robin Loor, 20, and Juan Daniel Santillán, 27, were intercepted by two vans with people in uniforms of the Armed Forces in the municipality of Ventanas, province of Los Ríos.

They were stopped, requisitioned and got into one of the vehicles and since that moment nothing else is known about the whereabouts of the two young men.

Lorena Roca, the mother of one of them, told local media that she saw them being taken away and tried to find out why they were detained, but one of the alleged soldiers pushed her with his rifle and told her to move away because they would also arrest her.

Roca filed a writ of habeas corpus against the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defense, the National Police, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ombudsman’s Office and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and asked that the case be declared a forced disappearance.

Although the military initially denied involvement, a leaked military report confirmed that the soldiers involved belonged to Special Forces Group No. 25 Base Sur, as revealed by journalists Karol Noroña and Jetssael Orozco.
