Russian President congratulates Belarusian president on re-election

Moscow, Jan 27 (Prensa Latina) Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko, who was re-elected president with 86.82 percent of the valid votes.

“Dear Alexander Grigorievich, I cordially congratulate you on your re-election as president of the Republic of Belarus. The resounding victory in the elections clearly shows your high political authority, and the undoubted support of the population for the state course Belarus is following,” wrote the Russian head of state in a letter.

In addition, Putin wished Lukashenko new successes in his state work for the benefit of the brotherly Belarusian people, and good health and well-being. “You are always a welcomed and dear guest on Russian soil. As we agreed, I look forward to seeing you soon in Moscow,” he added.

According to the Russian leader, the two countries have recently managed to “do a lot to strengthen friendly ties.” “We will continue to work closely together on the further development of multifaceted cooperation between Russia and Belarus, increasing the effectiveness of the institutions of the Union State and promoting mutually beneficial integration processes in the Eurasian space,” Putin added.

In the Belarusian presidential elections, held on January 26th, 5,916,195 voters participated, that is, 85.69 percent of the electoral roll registered in more than 5,300 polling stations.
