In an official letter addressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, Gabriela Sommefeld, the assemblywoman requested to know what actions will be taken to guarantee the rights of Ecuadorian citizens in migratory transit to U.S. territory in the new context.
Garzon also asked about whether they have allocated resources to strengthen the consular network in the United States in order to respond to the increase of cases related to Ecuadorians affected by the new immigration guidelines implemented by the Trump administration.
The anti-immigration policies of that government affect thousands of compatriots in the United States, violate their rights and is something that directly affects our dollarized economy, which depends largely on remittances, the assemblywoman warned.
She exposed data on how Ecuadorian emigration increased in the last years, when official data indicate that in 2023 the migratory deficit reached 121,335 people and between January and July 2024 there were 99,753 Ecuadorians who left the country without returning.
