As part of efforts to accelerate Addis Ababa’s entry into the WTO, Kebebew appreciated the critical support of Tokyo, Moscow, and London in the process, while highlighting the historical, economic, investment, and trade relations between those countries, Fana Broadcasting Corporate informed.
The UN representative explained that they are currently at a critical stage where concluding bilateral agreements with major trading partners is essential.
He underscored Ethiopia’s willingness to start negotiations based on revised offers of goods and services that are in line with the WTO guidelines for developing countries, and the development priorities and interests of its members.
In this regard, he requested to start those talks aimed at finalizing the agreements before the 5th Meeting of the Working Group scheduled for March 2025.
The permanent representatives of Japan, Naoki Hikota, Russia, Nikolai Platonov, and the United Kingdom, Andrew Jackson, expressed their strong support for Ethiopia’s accession and their willingness to facilitate the process.
