Two health care workers have been confirmed with tuberculosis, Mariela Contrera, deputy director of the national disease control program, said.
“Health workers are people who are at most risk of getting infected from TB disease,” Contrera told reporters.
Those affected are in good health and will need to be treated with antibiotics for several months.
“Tuberculosis is a curable disease,” the MSP stressed.
“Tuberculosis primarily affects the lungs and is transmitted through coughing and sputum. Those droplets carrying infectious microbes can be inhaled by a healthy person who can become infected and sick,” Contrera explained. Co-workers among the sick are being monitored to determine if they were affected.
The deputy director stressed that the patients who were treated in the surgical block are not in danger of contagion.
