Under the theme “Climate Services for Closing the Early Warning Gap Together,” the forum also expects to provide a platform for interaction between decision-makers, scientists, and climate information users.
Motuma Mekassa, senior advisor to the Ethiopian Water and Energy Minister, affirmed that his country acknowledges the critical role of accurate climate forecasts in improving preparedness and decision-making.
Mekassa thanked the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)’s Climate Prediction and Applications Center (ICPAC) for its remarkable work in advancing forecasting systems.
He underscored that ICPAC’s efforts to provide regional forecasts and adapt them to member States, including Addis Ababa, have been an instrument in guiding effective disaster risk management and informed agricultural practices.
The collaboration with the Ethiopian Meteorological Institute (EMI), the media, several sectors, and other meteorological services in the region is helping to strengthen the dissemination of climate data in an accurate and timely manner.
The two-day gatherings will host high-level government authorities from the African regional body’s member States, governmental and non-governmental organizations, development partners, and civil society stakeholders.
