The State of Palestine must assume all responsibilities in the Strip as it is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory, the presidency said in a statement.
It recalled the position announced on several occasions by President Mahmoud Abbas that the State of Palestine has legal and political rights over Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
The statement noted that the PNA has completed all preparations to assume all its responsibilities in the area following the start of the ceasefire between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), which comes into effect tomorrow.
Our teams are fully prepared to carry out their duties: alleviating the suffering of our people, returning displaced persons to their homes and restoring basic services such as water and electricity, as well as controlling border crossings,” he stressed.
The Presidency urged the world to increase humanitarian aid to the Strip, which has been under fire for 15 months.
It also called for a political solution based on Security Council resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, recently endorsed by the UN General Assembly.
The government of Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly refused to allow the presence of the PNA in Gaza after the end of the war, as advocated by the international community.
