The former prosecutor commented on the records of crimes for last year, which the Minister of the Interior (MI), Nicolás Martinelli, presented.
According to those data, robberies were down 22%, thefts 5,7% and homicides 1%, compared to the previous year.
“We have a complicated situation, we have a complex situation,” especially over drugs, Diaz said in a radio interview.
He questioned the methodology used by the MI Violence and Crime Observatory.
He lamented that the current authorities have not completed the ongoing victimization surveys.
He said it was unreasonable for violent crimes like robbery to go down and for homicide to stay up.
“Certainly homicide can have multiple causes, but generally there is a context of violence. When violence increases, there are more homicides,” he added.
