Russia ready for Putin, Trump talks

Moscow, Jan 16 (Prensa Latina) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today that if the United States believes it necessary, it is possible to organize a meeting between the American president-elect, Donald Trump, and Vladimir Putin.

“If this is brewing there and they want to prepare a meeting of this kind, we will wait for their proposals. The ball is in their court. It was not us who interrupted our communications, our regular consultations,” said the head of diplomacy of the Eurasian giant.

Previously, Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov revealed that, at the moment, no concrete preparations were being made for a meeting between Putin and Trump, information confirmed on Thursday by Lavrov, who indicated that “such contacts would be very necessary and convenient.”

At the end of last year, the next tenant of the White House anticipated that he could meet with his Russian counterpart, as soon as the beginning of his government, with the purpose of ending the war in Ukraine.

At a conservative event in Phoenix, Arizona, Trump confirmed that stopping the war is “one of the things I want to do quickly.” For his part, the leader of the Slavic nation confirmed at his annual press conference, held on December 19, that he is ready for possible talks with the Republican. Trump, who had served as president of the United States from 2017 to 2021, won the presidential election again on November 5, becoming the first American politician since the 19th century to return to the White House after a four-year gap.

The inauguration ceremony of the American president will be held on January 20, an event to which the Russian president was not invited.
