El Salvador in debt with peace agreements

San Salvador, Jan 16 (Prensa Latina) Thirty-three years after the Peace Agreements that put an end to years of civil war in El Salvador, there is a great historical debt with the victims of the armed conflict, organizations remarked.

The lack of a Transitional Justice Law that guarantees justice, truth and non-repetition is a demand of Salvadorans that extends and that the current legislature seems to delay, according to social organizations.

The commemoration is addressed this Thursday by the media and political organizations, such as the Farabundo Martí Liberation Front (FMLN) party, to highlight the importance of the pact that put an end to the confrontations.

Exactly 33 years ago, on January 16, 1992, the Salvadoran population witnessed the end of a war that for more than a decade subjected thousands of people to confrontations, persecutions, assassinations, torture, kidnappings and massacres, El Mundo reports. Now, it said, a group of members of organizations, representatives of victims of the conflict or of crimes committed at that time, stress the importance of the end of the conflict, although they still see challenges.

María Luz Rivas, legal representative of Comadres, said that there is a great historical debt with the victims of the armed conflict, such as a Transitional Justice Law that guarantees justice, truth and non-repetition.
