Israel and Palestinian group Hamas announce ceasefire agreement

Washington, Jan 15 (Prensa Latina) Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas have reached an agreement for a ceasefire and the release of hostages that puts an end to more than a year of fighting in the Gaza Strip, US media reported here today.

The agreement comes after a week of intense negotiations mediated by Qatar, the United States and Egypt.

A draft of the pact had been agreed upon at the beginning of the week, according to Arab, American and Israeli officials told CBS News.
