During a press briefing on the results of Russian diplomacy in 2024, Lavrov said he is deeply convinced that the United Nations Charter does not need improvement in terms of principles.
The principles of equality and self-determination of peoples, sovereign equality of the States, guarantee of territorial integrity of those States whose governments behave decently and respect the rights of all nations living in a given country are just, he stated.
However, this cannot be said about the Nazi regime in Ukraine, which came to power as a result of a coup d’Etat 11 years ago and, after all, does not represent the peoples of Crimea, Donbas, and Novorossiya, the foreign minister said.
The head of Russian diplomacy noted that, in the opinion of some countries, the greatest injustice is the permanent membership of some states in the UN Security Council with the right of veto.
Lavrov stressed that this right is a special mechanism that did not exist in previous international structures.
