According to the newspaper El Siglo, among the candidates are ministers, legislators, mayors, human rights advocates, young people, artists, indigenous people and professionals.
The list is headed by CPCh incumbent President Lautaro Carmona and General Secretary Bárbara Figueroa, and also includes Ministers Nicolás Cataldo, Jaime Gajardo, Jeannette Jara and Camila Vallejo, as well as Chamber of Deputies President Karol Cariola.
The general secretary of the Central Unitary Workers’ Union, Eric Campos; National Literature Award winner Raúl Zurita; Mapuche leader Luis Catrileo; singer-songwriter Jorge Coulón, and former Mayor Daniel Jadue are also among the candidates.
The results will be known on January 20 and later there will be a plenary session of the new Central Committee that will elect the Political Commission and the positions of president and general secretary of the organization for the next four years.
