“As of 09:00 hours on 12/Jan/2025, 329 aftershocks have been recorded from the M 6.1 earthquake that occurred in Coalcomán, Michoacán on 12/Jan/2025, the largest of magnitude M 4.5,” the agency reported through a message on X.
According to specialists, the earthquake took place at 02:32 local time, with an epicenter 47 kilometers southwest of Coalcomán and a depth of 30 kilometers.
Minutes after the earthquake, President Claudia Sheinbaum said on the same social network that representatives of the National Emergency Committee reported “no news” and initiated review protocols.
The National Coordination of Civil Protection specified in X that the earthquake was perceived in a moderate to strong way in Manzanillo, state of Colima; and slightly in demarcations of entities such as Michoacán, Jalisco, Nayarit, Guerrero and this capital.
The authorities called on the population to remain alert to the aftershocks, as well as to verify the conditions of the home and not to spread rumors.
