This week, Bolsonaro asked De Moraes to return his passport and allow him to leave the country to attend Trump’s inauguration in Washington on January 20.
The judge affirmed that a complement is needed before granting such a request.
“The request did not come properly instructed with the necessary documents, as the message was sent to the email of Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro at an unidentified address: info@t47inaugural.com, and without any schedule or program of the event,” the judge argued.
De Moraes indicated in the message that after receiving the additional information, he will send the request to the Attorney General’s Office, so that the legal institution can express itself on the far-right politician’s request. In order to leave Brazil, Bolsonaro needs judicial authorization, as his passport was confiscated by the Federal Police (PF) in February 2024.
The measure was adopted, in an operation, to investigate an alleged coup plot to keep the former president in office.
